Meet Vanessa
Writer. Decorator. Storyteller. Usually moving something.
Come sit with me. Stay a spell.
I’m Vanessa Sexton—a mother, Grammy, decorator, writer, and woman with approximately 50 blue million tabs open in her head.
One is rearranging your living room. One is writing a book. Another is wondering what God is teaching me through whatever just happened in the backyard.
And Nixon, my cat and self-appointed executive assistant, would like a word.
Welcome. You’ll fit right in.
Maybe you’ve had a few tabs open yourself.
Taking care of everyone. Holding things together. Making a home. Starting over. Wondering what you want now that there’s finally a little room to ask.
Maybe you’ve been called too much and still somehow felt like you weren’t enough.
I know that feeling.
I also know how easy it is to spend years making room for everyone else and realize you’ve barely left a place for yourself.
That’s something I’m writing about.
The Stories Becoming Books
You Are Worth It
Working title • Book in progress
My first book in progress, currently titled You Are Worth It, explores finding your way home to yourself.
Through stories about home, relationships, faith, mistakes, and ordinary moments that turned out to mean something, I’m inviting you to look at what you believe about yourself—and who taught you to believe it.
What are you holding on to because you love it?
What are you keeping because someone told you that you should?
And what might change if you trusted your own compass?
Those questions can start with a room. They have a way of wandering into the rest of your life.
My stories are the starting point. I hope you’ll recognize pieces of your own along the way.
There’s more taking shape on the writing table, too. Because once you begin to believe you are worth it, there’s another question waiting:
What happens next?
Faith, a little perspective, and a sense of humor
My faith in God is the foundation beneath everything I do. You’re welcome here wherever you are in your own faith or questions.
Around here, we teach without preaching, look for meaning in ordinary things, and leave room to laugh at ourselves.
My humor occasionally needs supervision.
I’m still learning. Still recalibrating. Still discovering that something I thought was “just piddling” was helping me build a life I actually wanted to live.
I share those moments because you might be standing in the middle of one yourself.
And yes, we might move your furniture.
Through Sexton Collective, I help people in Knoxville and the surrounding area create homes that feel beautiful, personal, and good to live in.
I pay attention to what a room asks of you and what it gives back. How it functions. How it feels. Whether there’s room for the life you actually live.
That same attention finds its way into my writing.
Home matters to me. So does the person living in it.
Come along for what happens next.
I’m sharing stories, everyday discoveries, and news as the books take shape. There will be decorating, faith, a little dirt, and probably an interruption from Nixon.
Come as you are.
You are worth it.
